Behind the Scenes: Angry Birds FPS for Magic Leap
When Resolution Games and Rovio teamed up to bring Angry Birds into spatial gaming, they created the first third party title for the Magic Leap One. A fully immersive, first-person slingshot experience.
Capturing authentic gameplay was critical, but in 2018, on-device capture wasn’t ready for public-facing content. The DualNorth team devised a creative solution. The game was run from the Unity editor on a PC with a bluescreen background. A GoPro, strapped to a styrofoam mannequin head and held next to the player’s own head, captured a believable first-person POV while the game was played using the Magic Leap controller and viewed on a monitor.
The result was a composite of real gameplay and physical movement that stayed true to the experience inside the headset.
This behind-the-scenes video shows how it all came together.
